In Depth Photo Illustrations

The Photo Made into Art:
I think that this particular photo was put together to show the real power and force that runs through motorcycles. Though the real intention of the photo was not specified it seems to me like there was an idea here, but overall I think it is mainly an art piece; something pretty to look at in other words.
I like this picture because of the bright colors and the bold red is very distracting.

The Photo Realistic Alteration:
In Grapevine, Texas there is an annual festival called the GrapeFest. This image captures the beautiful color and liquid form of wine and a tourist magazine altered the image for advertising purposes. This image was made to catch the eye and interest of the magazine reader to draw attention to the unusual spill pattern which is "coincidently" shaped like the state of Texas.
I like this image because it has no word but right when you look at it you immediately think "wine" and "Texas".

The Composite Image:
Portland, Oregon is known as "The Rose City". The famous rapper Eminem was schedule to be performing in the rather small town of Portland which is to them, a big deal. They decided to post flyer's and print the image above in a local magazine. The creator of this image took Eminem's face and put it onto an action figure's head. The figure was made to look as if he was chopping up the rose or "pwning" Oregon.
I like this image because it is really awkward looking and I before I read the caption I was trying to figure out whose face was on the action figure's body. Overall I think it is hilarious.

The Staged Illustration:
This illustration is used to show how easy it is for a child to fall into an uncovered pool. This image is meant to create a sense of eeriness of child death and obliviousness of children.
I like this picture because just by glancing at it, you know exactly what is going on and you know the little girl is going to want to get her ball out of the pool and she will probably end up drowning.

As it states on the quiz, the cut outs of children holding hands were used to represent the students that were sexually abused by their teacher and the burnt edges around the cutouts signify a loss or tarnished idea of the children's innocence.
This image could be easily made in Photoshop, it is simple but effective and those things together are used to get a powerful message across.

Keys to Action Photography

Zone Focus-
is when you focus on a certain spot and wait for action to come into the frame.
Shutter Speed-
is the amount of time the shutter is open.
Panning-
is following the subject with the lens at the same speed and position. Panning creates a feel of motion with the main subject in detail and all their surroundings extremely blurred.
Waiting for the Pause-
is when people are moving then they pause briefly and everything behind them is still in motion; gives the effect of panning in a safer way and without as much action in the shot.

My favorite is number sixteen because it is a money shot. It has very good composition, along with leading lines directing your eyes up the stairs to the main building. The photo has great detail and patterns, the windows are in focus and the bricks are in enough focus to still see the different textures. The lighting in the photo is well shot, the bottom of the photo is more dark at the bottom of the stairs and gets lighter as you look up towards the main building and the sky. This technique is also a good way to direct a person's eyes to the main object.

Gordon Parks and Langsten Hughes

I read for: 26 Minutes
My favorite poem by Langston Hughes was: "As I Grew Older"

My Favorite Gordon Parks Image:
"Chain Gang, Alabama 1956"
This shot taken by Gordon Parks has great use of leading lines. This shot is candid, although you cannot see the prisoners' expressions you can still feel that the general emotion of this image is rather gloomy.

Cover History

Early Magazine Cover:
An early magazine cover was normally based off the cover of a book. On the magazine cover, there is normally a small sketch or picture, a name, and a publication date. The earlier the design, the more simplistic it is. Earlier covers usually were set in black and white.

Poster Magazine Cover:
A poster type magazine cover usually has a picture that is self explanatory or is most appealing to the eye. The poster cover is not necessarily related to anything inside the magazine, it is just meant to catch a customer's attention. Poster covers don't have much type, the type that is on the cover usually is not overlapping the image.

Pictures Married to Type Magazine cover:
The pictures married to type cover is used to present a cover line along with a that goes with the cover line. The cover line is the title to a story inside the magazine, the cover line is usually a way to persuade people to read the magazine if it is something that interests them.

In the Forest of Words Magazine Cover:
The forest of words magazine cover depicts the same idea as the story married with type cover except the image doesn't always have to do with something on the cover. There is a variety of topics and article titles on the cover to catch the attention of a wider variety of readers. There is normally a cover line and then a sentence or two of the most interesting part of the article to captivate the reader before reading the actually article.
